Musician, humanitarian, and children’s book author, Michael Franti, is recognized as a pioneering force using music as a vehicle for positive change as well as his unforgettable, high energy shows with his band, Spearhead. With the multi-platinum success of his song “Say Hey (I Love You)” and the chart breaking 2010 release of “The Sound Of Sunshine”, their shows are thought provoking as well as a fun dance party. “Music is sunshine,” says Franti, one of the most positive and conscious artists in music today. “Music gives us new energy and a stronger sense of purpose.”
Michael has always spoken his mind through music: from his early punk rock band Beatnigs, to the industrial-noise of Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, to the conscious and soulful hip-hop of Spearhead. Franti spans the personal and the political, with grace, depth, and beauty. If the times have been marked by tension and fear, Franti offers compassion and release. In the two decades that Franti’s been composing music, he has grown from a black-booted voice of youthful rage into a barefoot clarion for social justice. Since 2000, he has chosen to go without shoes, partnering with the nonprofit Souls4Soles to raise awareness of the millions who can’t afford the luxury of shoes. Franti continues to stay true to his beliefs — making him one of the most relevant and influential artists of this generation. Franti gives an inspiring talk on social activism while performing a couple of songs on guitar.
"He was absolutely outstanding. He’s such a gem. Michael gave a great talk, followed with nearly a full concert worth of songs. Everyone came away in awe. Thank you for helping out in facilitating this event."- Pacific School of Religion
