Larry Miller, President of the Jordan Brand, has received international respect as an inspirational leader in establishing the standard for athletic luxury footwear and apparel while building one of the most innovative, cultural and premium companies in the World.
In his capacity as President, while working closely with Nike leadership and Michael Jordan, Miller is responsible for overseeing strategic planning and implementation of the $3 Billion global sports performance and lifestyle brand.
Prior to rejoining the Jordan Brand in 2012, Miller served as President and Alternate Board of Governor for the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers. As President of the Trail Blazers, he was responsible for all aspects of the organization’s business and basketball activities, and operation of the Rose Quarter facilities and related real estate. Under Miller’s leadership, the team made three consecutive postseasons while selling out 159 straight games and becoming the first American sports franchise to achieve Gold LEED status for an existing arena, earning the 2009 PRISM Award.
Miller originally joined Nike in 1997 as Vice President of the U.S. Apparel Division. He then served as Vice President and General Manager of Nike Basketball, where he was responsible for developing and executing strategies centered on the Jordan Brand, Nike Basketball and Converse. His reputation for passionate leadership, both internally and throughout the industry, resulted in Miller becoming President of the Jordan Brand for the first time from 1999-2006. During this timeframe, Jordan Brand experienced extraordinary growth and expanded its worldwide business and Jordan exclusive product lines.
Miller served in various positions that established his foundation in becoming one of the most influential corporate leaders in an evolving lifestyle industry. Immediately before joining Nike, Miller was President of Jantzen, Inc. He previously was a Manager for Kraft General Foods, Assistant Controller at Philadelphia Newspapers, Inc., and held various positions with Campbell Soup.
Miller recently participated in Business Beyond the Ball, a panel discussing opportunities in the sports industries featured at SXSW. Miller returned to his alma mater, Temple University, in March 2017 as part of the STHM Executive in Residence Program Speaker Series. In a special Honor, Miller will be recognized in Summer 2018 as one of the Centennial Honorees at The Fox School of Business as Temple University celebrates its Centennial Anniversary.
Miller, originally from Philadelphia, PA, resides in Portland and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Self Enhancement Inc. (“SEI”), the Oregon Business Council and the Oregon Sports Authority. He is a passionate advocate for education and mentorship with the Urban League and Junior Achievement.
Miller earned a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting from Temple University in 1982, and a Master’s Degree in business from LaSalle University in 1985. He graduated from the Urban League Leadership Institute in 1987.
