Shaun Tomson has been listed as one of the 25 most influential surfers of the century and as one of the 10 greatest surfers of all time. He was a professional surfer for 14 years, winning the IPS World Title in 1977. During his career he was both the youngest and oldest surfer to win a pro event.
He is the author of the best-selling book Surfer's Code - 12 Simple Lessons for Riding Through Life and the producer of the award-winning documentary film Bustin' Down the Door. He is also the author of Surf Creatures, an e-book of children's poetry. Tomson founded two multi-millionaire dollar clothing brands; Instinct in the 80's and Solitude in the 90's. He is considered to be one of the architects of professional surfing.
He is a business finance graduate from the University of Natal, in Durban, South Africa and is an inductee in the South African and Jewish Sports Halls of Fame and the American Surfing Hall of Fame. Tomson is an entrepreneur and environmentalist and lives in Santa Barbara, CA with his wife Carla and young son Luke. He is an inspirational speaker for corporations, schools and universities and is currently working on new book, apparel and film projects. He is a board member and ambassador for Surfrider Foundation, the world's largest environmental group dedicated to protecting the world's oceans, waves and beaches.
He still spends time searching for the perfect wave, while doing his best to avoid Tiger Sharks and Zambezis.
