Laura Dern
Actress
Laura Dern is equally celebrated for her terrific range and emotional depth as an actress, and her impassioned advocacy of women's rights, AIDS research, reproductive choice, children's safety initiatives and environmental conservation, among other causes. From the podium she delivers engaging lectures that empower, educate, and inspire audiences to make a difference in the world.
Laura has carved out a unique place in the history of movies since making her screen debut at the age of six. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her mesmerizing performance in Rambling Rose, and winner of a Golden Globe for her work in the HBO docudrama Afterburn, she has also made memorable appearances in such classic films as Citizen Ruth, Blue Velvet, Mask, JurassicPark, and Wild at Heart.
But it is for her activism that Laura has made her most lasting contribution to society, and in which she is most enthusiastic to involve audiences. Among her many other engagements, she is a spokesperson for the Children's Health Environmental Coalition (CHEC), whose mission is to educate the public about the toxic substances that can affect children's health; a vocal advocate on behalf of the National Organization for Women; and a prominent member of Amnesty International. Laura relishes opportunities to raise public awareness of the issues most dear to her, in furthering her commitment to bring about social and political change worldwide.
