Christopher Gavigan is a nationally recognized environmental health leader, author, speaker, and social entrepreneur focused on developing brands and innovative communications for companies seeking to create positive brand value, inventive communications, and impactful cultural leadership.
Gavigan is the former CEO / Executive Director of Healthy Child Healthy World, the innovative nonprofit focused on environmental health and sustainable, nontoxic family lifestyles. In this role, Gavigan was solely responsible for all the communications, marketing, operations, annual fundraising, and media campaigns / programming, as he completely redeveloped the boards, staff, and business partnerships.
While at Healthy Child, Gavigan revitalized the organization's
strategic positioning and completely re-envisioned the brand's
product and platform so it is now recognized as one of the most
credible and trusted in the environmental and children's health
fields. Delivering new leadership in the brand's strategic
relationships, legislative policy, and research / editorial
content, Gavigan developed their robust media relationships to
engage tens of millions of consumers and help them choose a
healthy, nontoxic lifestyle. The business and annual budget grew by
over 3 times in four years, reaching nearly 12M dollar, as
discerning foundations, philanthropists, and business leaders
engaged in the newly defined programs and marketing opportunities.
Gavigan built new strategic partnerships with Google, WebMD,
Target, Seventh Generation, Microsoft, BabyCenter, Universal
Studios, Stonyfield Farms, Whole Foods, and many other market
leaders as a means to expand relevance, increase revenue, and
attract exclusive relationships from key communications companies
like Yahoo.
Christopher is also the best-selling author of "Healthy Child
Healthy World - Creating a Cleaner, Greener, Safer Home"
(Penguin/Dutton 2008), with over 40 leading contributions from
notable doctors, activists, and celebrities including Dr. Philip
Landrigan, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, First Lady Michelle Obama,
Gwyneth Paltrow, Sheryl Crow, Dr. Alan Greene, and Dr. Harvey Karp.
Gavigan has authored and been profiled in dozens of articles about
environmental health, sustainability, green and safer products, and
the nontoxic marketplace for national magazines, newspapers, and
websites, such as People Magazine, Huffington
Post, New York Times, CNN, Elle,
In Style, Parenting, Cookie,
Treehugger, Discovery, Fit Pregnancy,
and USA Today. He has been featured as an expert and is
sought as a speaker (LOHAS, Go Green Expo) and interviewed on
numerous radio (NPR, Oprah) and television programs (Good
Morning America, Montel Williams) throughout the
United States.
Prior to Healthy Child Healthy World, Christopher was the Founder / Managing Partner of Family First LA, Inc., a family therapeutic services collective, and Pinnacle Expeditions, an outdoor wilderness expedition company. Noticing business opportunities, Gavigan created both brands to serve families and children interpersonal, social, and academic needs, while leveraging the platforms to drive new product innovation with outside CPG vendors.
Gavigan sits on the Board of Directors of Mount Sinai Hospital's Children Environmental Health Center and is a Chief Advisor to the Green Product Innovation Institute. He is also on the Advisory Boards of SAIL Venture Partners and UCLA's Environmental Health Sciences Department. Christopher was awarded the WebMD's "Health Hero Award for 2010" and Elle Magazine's "Green Award" in 2007.
Raised in New York and Connecticut, Christopher graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a double major in Environmental Science and Business, and extensive Master's Degree training in Psychology from UCLA. Christopher lives in Santa Monica with wife and actress, Jessica Capshaw, and their two children Luke and Eve.
