As of January 25, "Avatar" has brought in $1.859 Billion at the box office, passing the $1.843 Billion worldwide record set by 1997's "Titanic." "Avatar" is Cameron's most ambitious project of all: a science fiction epic, four years in the making. Based on a script Cameron first wrote in 1994, Avatar is the first big budget action film to be shot in 3D, using revolutionary camera technology Cameron developed himself. The revolutionary film was released simultaneously in IMAX as well as 3D and conventional widescreen and formats, it is already the highest-grossing IMAX film ever. Whatever future surprises James Cameron has up his sleeve, he has already made motion picture history and touched the lives of millions.
